About the Author

A Swiss native born in 1946, Peter Zweifel is a Professor of Economics at the University of Zurich at the Socioeconomic Institute. Together with Friedrich Breyer and Matthias Kifmann, he is the author of “Health Economics” (2nd. ed., Springer, 2009); other texts (“An Economic Model of Physician Behavior”, “Insurance Economics”, “International Economics”, “Energy Economics”) are available in German only. His work has been published by the Am. Ec. Rev., Antitrust Bull., Eur. Econ. Rev., Health Econ. , J. Health Ec., J. Risk & Ins., J. Risk & Unc., Public Choice, among others. Together with Mark Pauly of the University of Pennsylvania, he is the founding editor of the International Journal of Health Finance and Economics (Kluwer). From 1996 to 2005, he has also served as a member of the Competition Commission, the Swiss antitrust authority.

Roland Eisen born 1941 in Stuttgart (Germany), studied Economics in particular at the LMU in Munich, got his Dr. degree there in 1971 with a thesis about "Economic Growth and Technical Progress", wrote his second thesis about "Insurance Equilibrium" in 1977 (published 1979). He served for 13 years as a research assistant at the Institut of Insurance Economics at Munich's LMU. After appointments at the University

of Bamberg and at the Technical University Munich-Weihenstephan he was appointed as full professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.His research fields are insurance economics, labour economics, economics of social policy, health economics (in particular long term care), as well as macroeconomics.

I am really glad that I have read this book and have referenced it in my thesis.The book gave me a very detailed view of the insurance industry from an economics perspective. I had to read it carefully to understand the economics theory behind it and have used the references used by the author to get more information. One thing to note is that I found some spelling mistakes in the book.

OK, not great

I'm about half-way through this book. Fortunately I got it out of the library and didn't spend any money on it. There's nothing really new in here, except some (to me) eye-rolling suggestions. (Keep your old CDs and turn them into jewelry!) I find myself thinking, while reading, that most of the suggestions in here are really impractical. Check it out at the library before you consider buying.

List of obvious, generalized and superficial tips--nothing special or specific here. And she brags about spending $1.99 for 24 plastic bottled water. Gross! Made me lose respect for the author. Wish I hadn't wasted my time. Much better off reading tightwad gazette.

I just bought this book and it's got some pretty great advice. I'm trying to get a grip on my finances and I actually bought 4 money management books - two of them were terrible. This book and Moneymalism: A Minimalist Money Guide were the two best! 5 stars!

If you're looking for a general reference on SSH, this is the book you want.

Michael Lucas (author of "Network Flow Analysis," "Absolute FreeBSD," "Cisco Routers for the Desperate," "Absolute OpenBSD," and "PGP and GPG") is as well known to people who do system administration and networking as he is unknown to the general public. Those of us who know of him have come to expect that anything he writes will be top notch.

"SSH Mastery" meets those expectations. If you've worked with Unix or any of its variants for any length of time, you've probably gotten to know SSH pretty well. If you're just starting out with Unix, you are going to get to know SSH. Even though the book is geared towards newbies, there is something in this book for just about anyone who might be interested in it. Lucas goes over pretty much everything most people will want to know about SSH. A lot of what he writes about can be found scattered in other places, but his explanations are concise and clear, which isn't always true of the other references, and it's gathered in one place instead of being dispersed around the Web. If you're looking for a general reference on SSH, this is the book you want.

Going from conversant to master requires a bit of mentoring.

SSH is every where. It is used as the 'modern day telnet.' Many systems administrators all over as well as developers, operational folks and 'techies' of all varieties use SSH and barely touch the surface of what the tool can do.

OpenSSH is the most common implementation of the SSH protocol and is used in everything from routers, appliances through to workstations. Being a small component in Apple's iOS, there are literally millions upon millions of installations.

Michael's book is a great introduction to the topic. He moves on to expand on the tool's use as well as helps the reader develop the more secure authentication patterns all while helping expose the many features of OpenSSH buried in the man pages.

His consistent and easy to follow examples aligned with his humour makes this an easy read. The content doesn't beat the topic to death but definitely gives it enough bruises to get the reader comfortable enough to explore more on their own.

I've found myself writing and teaching SSH tips every place I go so now I have a book I can send people to and save some of that precious time. While there isn't a print copy available at this first release, it is coming and is priced very well to make it affordable (I some times spend more on coffee in a day).

I highly recommend this title to anyone who wishes to not only understand SSH as a tool but also learn how to use it more effectively and securely. May no administrator use simple text authentication ever again.

Great read for beginners or experts

I first encountered Michael Lucas from his books 'Absolute FreeBSD' and 'Absolute OpenBSD' . Both of those books set the bar high, and he certainly hit it again with this book. There is nothing in this book that you couldn't find elsewhere online, but this is the only place to get all the tips and tricks in one location, with a dash of humor added to the mix. You'll go away feeling not only educated, but entertained. If you care about your network, your network's security, and doing things 'the right way', you owe it to yourself to purchase this book. I'm probably not going to read it through again, but I know I'll be flipping through it quite often to get the most out of the tips offered.

Sci Fi Queen I Love Sarah Marsh

Sarah Marsh is the queen of Sci Fi Romance every book she brings out is more outstanding than the last I do not no how she does it but Miss Marsh is seriously talented so much so that the very opening lines too this book had me Hooked.

Sally Owens is content to spend her life away hiding in well plain sight, that is….. well as long as no one got too close too her or tries to wrestle the reigns away.

When she decides too let her hair down which takes all her courage, she ends up getting kidnapped and shipped out into outer space which was so NOT what she had in mind. If at all. But Sally is a survivor and she soon comes up with a great plan to thrive and adapt in this new world that has been thrust upon her.

Arkenon Quinn has been informed that one of the human refugees that were rescued wants to join the Courtesan Guild and well he is curious to say the least. However, when he meets the plucky firebrand who makes him wonder what beautiful Sally is all about, so what is a guy too do but mentor her even if it is against his better judgement. What he couldn't have or wouldn't have anticipated is how quickly this fascinating human would steal his very heart, Now he is pushed with a new dilemma something he’s never had to do ever...... chase a woman.

But will Sally’s painful past stop her from finding her forever with this amazing hulk of a man who is like no other that she has ever met or wanted to?

So this is book four of Coalition Mates and by far my favourite, well until the next book captures my heart :) as I said above from the first line of the book I was a goner see Miss Marsh has this poem that captured my full being and my heart, I have this poem pinned too my bedroom wall that's how much is resonated with me.

" Surrender me with words.
Inspire me with passion.
Blind me with longing.
Break me with need.

Bind me with Love."

Seriously this is a mighty start too an amazing book.

As the characters go Sally and Arkenon are one of the best too date I love the fiery interplay between them I adore the yin and yang the flow of how they come together.

Sally is independent yet quiet she is not the one too go out yet she comes out of her bubble for the night and well it doesn't go too plan and then some, so she is kidnapped and then rescued and on a different planet with different races.... yes it is mind boggling but rather amazing she takes it all in her stride and is rather confident about it all. she has so many qualities that I love about her and want everyone else too love as well.

Arkenon is a man and a half he has charisma and the looks too boot and the charm wowza just one look is enough too make you swoon and your panties drop too the ground. But as much as he has all this he has a complexity about him that no one but Sally can get see she crawls in too his heart little by little he never expected a tiny human too make him have so much feelings and emotions, he well is just not use too this after all look at who he is and the job he has, women come to him right??

My favourite part was the ending and yes some may seem it is weird but its where we meet these amazing three characters we see a glimpse of what there capable of and hints of the longing and the needs that they need too complete themselves, they have to have there own story " hears me begging the author"

Sarah Marsh is super talented an an author you have too read ... seriously you are missing out. Read All Her Books.

This is the 2nd book I've read from the Coalition Mates series and, I must say, Sarah didn't fail to deliver the heat on this one either. Surrender contains acts of voyeurism, exhibitionism, spanking, anal and bondage play.

Also, she has sex scenes involving m/m, m/w, m/m/w, and m/m/m/w.

Sounds kinky, right?

Just wait until you read the chapter where Sally and Ark attend Galen's get-together. Trust me folks, this is not a party where you'll find couples yawning out of boredom. No, what you'll read will have your temperature skyrocketing, legs clenching, and maybe you might even find yourself panting a little bit. ;)

About the Author
Avtar Singh is Professor of Electrical Engineering at San Jose State University. Earlier he taught at the City University of New York and the County College of Morris. Before coming to San Jose State University, he was with industry. He has worked for National semiconductor, Anderson Jacobson, and Vivix Corporation, all in the silicon-valley. At San Jose State, Dr. Singh is involved in teaching and research in the areas of DSP implementation, biomedical instrumentation, and programmable devices and processors. He has published a number of articles in his areas of interest. He has also co-authored nine textbooks on Microprocessors.

S. Srinivasan is currently a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology. In 1998-1999, he was a Visiting Professor at California State University, where he worked as Associate Professor from 1986-1990. His teaching areas include Digital Circuits and Systems, Computer Architecture, and VLSI Design. His research areas are Architectures and Applications of Digital Signal Processors, Image Processing Implementations, Video Compression, and ASIC Design. Dr. Srinivasan's awards and fellowships include the Siemens Prize for Academic Proficiency (1970), DAAD Fellowship (1977 ¿78), Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (1983, not utilized), and the Best Design Entry award in the Design Contest held as part of the 13th International Conference on VLSI Design (2000).

Great book for beginner's with DSP theory background.

I took Professor Singh's DSP programming class at San Jose State University using his lecture notes (book store printed copy) from which this book is based. The class was excellent, the notes were great, and I learned a lot.

You need some basic DSP theory background (FIR/IIR filters, FFT algorithm, decimators/interpolators, sampling, quantization, etc.) to get the most from this book. Some of the main topics he covers are: TI 'C54x DSP processor architecture and memory map, mnemonic intruction set (assembly language), pipelines, setting up and programming peripheral devices (A/D-D/A converter, DMA). And lastly, he includes assembly code examples and homework problems for DSP applications.

SOME CRITIQUES:

1. You can find all the information contained in this book from TI's manuals, tutorials, and application notes. But, the strength of this book lies in combining all that information in one place in a manner that is neither too high (so general that you can't implement anything practical), nor too low (so much detail that you get lost). Great for a beginner who needs to crossover from theory to practice.

2. This book's focus is on the hardware bit/register level in assembly language; great when you need to program a really time-critical section of code but not recommended to immplement an entire system in. That's the purpose of C/C++ and real-time operating systems of which Professor Singh makes no mention.

3. I thumbed through the book at the bookstore yesterday and noticed that a CD for the code examples wasn't included. A definite drag to type all that in. Maybe he has a website for download. I'm not sure though.

4. You need to buy or have access to the 'C54x DSK board. I bought mine from TI's website for $395. I'm really happy with it. TI has plenty of documentation and good online tutorials. The software design environment, debugging/analysis tools, and RTOS that comes with it are excellent.

5. Finally, I want to say that a few sections of the book could use expanding upon. For example, I thought his explanation of interrupts could have been better. All in all though, for a solid place to get your feet wet and armed with supplemental reading material, I highly recommend this book!

Excellent! Great for advanced students and adults.

SUMMARY OF REVIEW: Diagramming Step by Step is a five star superior, advanced textbook/workbook for sentence diagramming. I was compelled to buy this book because I remember how fun and demystifying sentence diagramming can be for the student. Similar to crosswords, sentence diagramming can be a fun and challenging game. For students preparing for SATS, ACTS or other standardized tests, this textbook/workbook will hone your grammar skills, preparing you for your test(s). Note, this book is no 4th grade walk in the park, for that you're better off with Eugene Moutoux's Drawing Sentences: A Guide to Diagramming, which starts with the absolute basics, slowly but thoroughly building a solid knowledgebase. In contrast, in this book (Diagramming Step by Step) Moutoux rapidly covers the basics, moving the student along at a challengingly fast but equally rewarding pace. Reiterating the true value of this teaching tool and standardized test prep workbook, the "Writing Correctly" section after each sentence diagramming lesson is my absolute favorite gem, teaching students how to properly use adverbs, when to you "whom," and so much more.

FULL REVIEW: As a professional writer, I bought this book to improve my grammar and writing. I'm always looking to perfect my writing skills, whether it's learning how to write a compelling story, down to correctly applying grammar rules. So far, I'm enjoying the lessons in this workbook/textbook. I find each lesson to be informative, providing several examples for each lesson, including many sentences for the student to practice diagramming. The book covers all the basics of grammar, but moves quickly. It's great for a refresher for people who generally know proper grammar; it is not a book for a student just learning grammar rules. If you're still learning the basics of grammar, this book is a bit too advanced - it moves too quickly.

What this book does masterfully is teach you how to DIAGRAM SENTENCES. It gives 6-10 examples ("steps") of diagramed sentences expressing the new rules for each lesson, than it provides 10 or more sentences for you, the student, to diagram. There is ample space to write answers in the book, so one doesn't even need an extra pad of paper. I sat on my couch listening to music while diagramming away with nothing more than this book and a pen.

The answer key is excellent, and is large enough to easily be read. (The answers are at the end of the book - teachers and homeschoolers be aware!) The amount of provided examples increases as the lessons increase in complexity. There are 155 steps in all, as the title states. By lesson five, the student is diagraming sentences like, "Not surprisingly, the fatuous man loves a diffident woman." Lesson twenty-two has sentences like, "A year and a half after they moved to Cincinnati, they moved back to California." There are 100-word sentences, 145 word sentences, and larger.... Basically, this book moves rapidly and will challenge the reader, even if the reader happens to be a grammar teacher or professional writer! Further emphasizing the power of this book as a teaching tool, Moutoux constantly reinforces lessons taught in prior chapters, helping to solidify in the students' minds this dense workbook/textbook of grammar rules.

By the way, I really love the "Writing Correctly" lessons following each section. These little teaching gems quickly (often on one side of a page) remind the reader of frequent grammar mistakes, little know grammar rules and peculiarities, and often overlooked editorial blunders. Here's an example: "Everyone must bring ["his or her" or "their"] pens and pencils.")

If you're on the fence whether you should buy Diagramming Step by Step or Moutoux's Drawing Sentences: A Guide to Diagramming, here's a word from the author:
"Should you buy this book if you already have 'Drawing Sentences'? Not necessarily, but if you are looking for additional diagramming challenges for yourself or your students, you will find plenty in this book. Should you buy this book instead of 'Drawing Sentences'? Again, not necessarily. In general, I think 'Drawing Sentences' is a better choice for younger learners and 'Diagramming Step by Step" a better choice for older teens and adults...."

I'm giving Diagramming Step by Step five stars because it's an exceptional teaching tool, and for me it's a fun little brainteaser. When crosswords get old, and Sudoku isn't doing it for you, maybe you should give Diagramming Step by Step a try.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!

I'm still working my way through this wonderful book. It is a college-level text which explains grammar as I've never seen it. The examples are precise and thorough and the exercises are the same (they exactly match the material and exercises so everything is crystal clear). I've been enjoying diagramming and over the past year have bought a number of books and courses. This is the best. I highly recommend this book. It's worth the money.

A lovely spiral-round book, easily copied for extra practice, will full answer keys and tons of digestible information on parts of speech, case and all parts of grammar, that teaches how to diagram even the most complex sentence. For high-school age or higher, I'd guess, I purchased this book while studying foreign languages to brush up on English parts of speech. By the end of this book, you will be diagramming long and complex sentences with ease, and you will know exactly what every clause, phrase and word in a sentence is doing there. I still believe diagramming is the best tool for cementing real knowledge of the English Language. If you only want one of Moutoux's books, this is probably the one to get, but both are wonderful.

My girls get excited for these for their summer work. They feel more confident in math after their first workbooks, so I am continuing to use them to supplement ay home what they are studying in school. These workbooks made an especially big difference for my oldest who has struggled in math.
