Nurse Hitomi is back and with her all seeing eye and gentle heart taking on a bunch of new students, From the high flying rebel girl, a boy who grows breasts, to the girl who eats everything, and almost anybody. Not only this, but she helps her fellow teachers as well, from furry Mojoi, to the art teacher whose hair moves on its own and has a thing for our lovely nurse. These stories and more are here in the next issue of the Monster Infirmary.

I am enjoying this series. Its lighter than 12 beast or Monster Masume and shows that even monster children have issues just like normal people. A must read for fans of the monster series

This is a great book to guide you in your fight. There's a lot of material to get through (exercises) and you'll want to go back and redo most of them as additional thoughts come to mind. I'd recommend taking your time as you go through this. It's not a quick one-and-done deal that you want to rip through; instead, I'd recommend a thoughtful approach that involves some deep soul-searching.

Good read for parents of "Entertainment Children"

Robert Pafundi gave me a copy of his book when it was first released, and I offered to provide my feedback. I wanted to write a review as well, because I was simply blown away by how much information was packed into these 250+ pages. Robert uses language that is easy to understand, which helps those of us who don't come from a legal background. Having complex information explained in 'normal' terms made this an easy and very informative read. I'm currently about halfway through, but I wanted to post my thoughts thus far, and (at this point) recommend it to anyone who has children in entertainment, who may someday have children in entertainment, or who would like to know more about the industry at large.

First, I admit I'm not in the industry at all. My Entertainment knowledge comes from watching movies/TV, which is probably the worst way to learn the business. And yet, this book was very well written, and provided me with a huge amount of insight into the Entertainment industry.

I've watched the HBO show Entourage (perhaps you have too), and I never understood the difference between Talent Agents and Talent Managers. Part I of this book explained that difference (which is primarily that Agents can secure work for clients, while Managers are more focused on career). Immediately, this book had taught me something new, and I was drawn in and ready to learn more.

In Part II, I read more about contracts and negotiation, and how to use them to your (or your child's) advantage. These chapters were full of advice to parents on what to sign and how to make sure you and your child are protected. Part III continued this even more, but the most interesting part (to me) was the 'opt out' clause, allowing you/your child or the manager to opt out of a contract that doesn't benefit one or both of you. Of course, the opt-out clause can be positive or negative, so Robert discusses many situations in which you would or would not want to sign a contract with this clause.

Part IV talks about compensation, which is an enormous topic. I'm currently reading through part IV and absorbing the information. Honestly, I find it crazy how contracts and compensation work in Hollywood, since I'm used to jobs with a simple paycheck every couple weeks.

So far, I think I echo many other reviewers here. If your child ever moves into the entertainment industry, this book can give you all the basic information you need to make informed decisions on hiring Agents, Managers, and Attorneys. You can learn about how contracts work and how you'll get paid. I would definitely recommend this book.

Great Book! This is a must have for any serious child performer families.

Rob Pafundi has written the first book of it's kind. A book that explains the unexplainable. Often in show biz, parents have no idea what to expect, until they are in way over their heads. This book provides answers to all the usual questions, but then takes the subject matter all the way down the road, answering all the "what if" scenarios you can think of. What if my child books a hit Television Series? What if my child makes it big and we want to change representation mid stream? What if we want to get out of our contract? What if I get sued by my manager? These are real scenarios, written by a real pro. Children In Film strongly supports Rob Pafundi's momumental achievement in "Safe Stardom: How to protect your Children on Their Road to Fame".

Fantastic read (not just for parents)

Although much of Safe Stardom is intended for the parents of child actors, as a 22 year old actor who is just breaking into the industry, I found both the writing and information to be extremely helpful with the important decisions I am making. At this time in my career, it is essential to know things like how the union operates, what having representation actually means, and how to protect myself from signing a contract that does not have my best interests in mind. All of these things and more are covered in the book in a thorough, yet relatable way. I would recommend this book to any aspiring actor, or parent of a child actor. It is not only a fun read, but I believe it is incredibly important to anyone who is trying to make it in the film industry.

Jonathan Crichton has over fifteen years' experience in teaching and research in English language education and has published widely in related areas. He holds a PhD in Linguistics and an MA in Applied Linguistics.

A tough language like English can be made easy!

This book is EXCELLENT for a 2nd level ESL students practicing English. I tutor English to a couple of immigrants, and I have seen a fair share of good and bad books for teaching English. The "English Made Easy" books definitely belong in the "good" pile! At the beginning of every chapter of this book, they introduce a couple of vocabulary words in lists. Then they proceed to introduce some words using illustrations. They also show realistic conversations through very simple comic strips. In some of the chapters, there are exercises so English learners can fill in the blanks to finish the conversations in the comic strips. There are also a couple of other exercises in the book that allows ESL students to identify vocabulary words and use correct grammar. And occasionally, the scenarios are funny, so those with a good sense of humor will certainly appreciate this book.

It's preferable for students to go through the chapters of this book in sequential order. However, some students may be able to jump around the chapters and still be able to learn English fine. Either way, this is a valuable resource to students. Depending on how many ESL students are studying together, you can have them act out the conversations, write stories about the situations, and even add more to the stories.

This book by Jonathan Crichton was easy to use and was very user friendly by both the teacher and student. One complaint was there were over a dozen references to people, places and things that were entirely British and substitution had be made for the student who is living in America. Otherwise the book was very useful.

Oh, how it's so easy to forego dreams because we don't pursue them. This wonderful book stirred me to go for all that Jesus made possible for me and all who believe. We can dream . . . we should dream . . . and this book is a helpful tool to help in the process. I'm very happy with it, plus I can read it quickly and put the principles into action! Love it!

Take Hold Of Your Dream

"Take Hold Of Your Dream" by Jentezen Franklin is mainly a motivational title for those needing a boost in pursuing their dream(s). The book is around 160 pages, contains great pictures, and addresses topics such as:

1. Seeing your dream unfold.
2. Challenges (inward and outward) to your dream.
3. Keep going when the going gets tough.
4. You are never too old to pursue a dream.
5. Letting God use your liabilities for your glory.
6. Discovering your mission in life.
7. Living in faith.

I have to agree with an earlier reviewer that while Franklin uses some biblical examples (David, Joseph, Abraham, etc.), he uses up a lot of space with catchy phrases ("it is always too soon to quit", "nothing is impossible, believe that you can", etc.) that readers have maybe heard before. To me, reading such phrases does get old and worn out over a period of time. Also, while the author develops a six stage plan to every dream, I would have liked to have seen him go into more detail (for example, in step 1: "I thought it" - Is it your thought, or God's thought? What are some suggestions or questions to ask yourself - what does God want to do in and through me? What other approaches could you use in seeking God's dream for you?).

I would have liked to have seen the author use more approaches based in the Bible, his own experience, and the experience of others, and use far fewer cliches'. The book contains excellent pictures and some good biblical material - just would have to liked to have seen more meat.

Conservatives, Welcome Back to the Conversation on Social Justice

One of the perennial problems of post VII Catholic Social Thought has been the absence of the conservative prospective. What historically had been a dialogue between conservative and liberal perspectives on applying Catholic Social Doctrine to the problems of the world with each showing the other its blind spots through exploration of the tension between subsidiarity and solidarity somehow morphed into a monologue dominated by a progressive and Marxist outlook. Fr. James Schall’s book, On Christianity and Prosperity is thus a very welcome restoration of the dialogue on Catholic Social thought as he applies Catholic Social teaching to the problems of poverty from a conservative, Burkean vantage.
As he discloses early on in this short book (or long essay depending how you look at it), his thesis that, “Poverty is not best dealt with by attending to the immediate relief of the poor.” He goes on to argue that , “poverty can be put in a better framework if we see it not as something to be alleviated by the rich but as something to be diminished and removed by the poor themselves in cooperation with those who have previously learned how not to be poor.” Pg. 5 He asks some great and sure to be challenging questions such as, “Does concern for the poor become a substitute for God- the only way to prove visibly that we are not being selfish?” and “Why did God give us a world in which all things were not provided us by nature?”. Schall answers by arguing that true love for the poor will be concerned with helping all those poor who are able to become not poor and that God has given us to reason, time and the material world to learn and do so we can all have what is needed to prosper.
One can tell that Schall is a big fan of Pope Benedict’s XVI teachings on the economy and that he struggles with statements made by Pope Francis. However, he cites various statements from Pope Francis both as Pope and when he was archbishop to show that he and the Pope agree in principle on his main thesis. He then critiques some of the Pope’s statements about prudential judgement in a way that is totally in bounds for a son of Church.
So while concern for the poor is at the heart of the Gospel, Schall challenges the Christian reader to concretize this concern by looking at what has actually worked to get people not poor rather than what seems great in concept but hasn’t really worked in reality. And for Schall what has worked is Capitalism and what doesn’t work is Socialism. On Christians and Prosperity is a thought provoking essay that is sure to stretch some “social justice” Catholics.

A truly remarkable collection of Schall's insights into the causes of poverty and how we think about solutions to this problem. More than once do I come across a passage and say "Why of course, everyone can agree with that!" Schall guides us thru the muddled thoughts that assault us from every direction.

Biblical Christianity and Micro-Economics Reconciled?

My daughter recommended this book to me because of the author's reputation. I purchased it based on the title thinking that it might stimulate my thinking. To my surprise, I already had a book by Father Schall on the classics - Think Mortimer Adler and the Great Books. That book was excellent. So I dove into this one. Bang. The book makes one think and explore. I am a research engineer, and a Roman Catholic who did a lot of operations research work in my career. This book ties together Christian Religious teachings, Judeo-Christing-Graeco-Roman logic and philosophy and micro-economics. It is a "tour-de-force" of systematic thinking and linking together of thought in different fields. Reading alert - he cites books such as "Prudence" that will require you to broaden your reading and thinking processes. There is a moral component to charity that this book lays out as a challenge to how you not only do your personal charity but how you view government's actions on charity.

There are many quotes in the Judeo-Christian scriptures on charity as well as on business behavior. Many of them on the surface seem to contradict others. Father Schall brings them into a systematic unity.

He is now added to GK Chesteron, CS Lewis, Peter Kreeft as one of my favorite logic/philosopy authors. He is also added to Hayek and Friedman as one of my favorite economics authors.
