Want to make positive change in your organization? Then buy this book. By using manageable short chapters centered around key organizational points Morrissey gives you "take home value" NOW. No wading through endless text waiting for the proverbial punch line, each chapter is a tangible shift for an organization. If a particular chapter doesn't happen to apply to your business or employer, just go to the next one - it probably will. It's a huge pet peave when authors blather on endlessly to impress you with their amazing thinking or accomplishments, forcing you to mine for the actual gold in the book (if it's even there). This book does none of that, and I am thankful to the author for not wasting my limited time. Excellent return on invested time and money. Bravo!

This book has become my Professional Bible. It clearly reflects years of substantive thought, analysis and PRACTICE by Janelle and her network of contributors.

In effect, the book serves as a companion to the common law of corporations, property and torts and demonstrates how and where sharing law solutions build on and occasionally depart from "traditional" transactional law practice.

As I work to grow my own practice, this book will continue to be one of my primary Go-Tos. And as more communities clamor for ways to bootstrap their own development and efficiently manage their resources, there will be more demand for this kind of legal work. Therefore, more attorneys and law students should familiarize themselves with this practical and accessible manual for law practice in the new, sharing-based economy.

Accessible scientific and sociological history are combined by Dormandy, a consultant pathologist in London, in this account of a tenacious disease that has claimed victims from ancient Egypt to 1990s New York City. Focusing mostly on western Europe and the U.S., Dormandy vividly details the long struggle against tuberculosis. He takes readers through the high points of its history--from the discovery in 1882, by German physician Robert Koch, of the tubercle bacillus through the legendary tubercular deaths of writers, musicians and artists like Katherine Mansfield, George Orwell, D.H. Lawrence and Modigliani. He notes that before 1882, most observers thought infection was caused by a genetic predisposition, and doctors often treated it with measures such as bloodletting (which, Dormandy argues, hastened the deaths of famous sufferers like poet John Keats). Then he follows the disease as it made its way through crowded, poverty-stricken urban areas. He discusses the growth of the 19th century's sanatorium movement, examines the romantic, creative aura that was associated with it, and takes note of the post-WWII discovery and use of antibiotics, which began to effect dramatic cures. Dormandy points his research at present-day medical struggles--the global HIV epidemic, he notes, has combined with the emergence of multi-drug resistance to make tuberculosis, once thought almost eradicated, a threat to worldwide health again. British pathologist Dormandy weaves together cultural and medical history with the skill of a learned, witty, and humane scholar. Exhaustively researched and documented, his book describes the havoc wreaked by tuberculosis over millennia--which, horrifyingly, was sometimes inflicted by physicians themselves. Happily, the search for a cure led also to significant medical innovations, including the stethoscope, antibiotics, and X-rays. More mundane advances, including park benches, bobbed hair, and an end to ornate Victorian d?cor, also emerged, as an appalling number of citizens of all social classes sought cures in sanatoria, where carefully calibrated exercise was a standard prescription and dust was relentlessly suppressed. Dormandy illuminates his medical history through the stories of dozens of artists and writers, from Keats and Chopin to Orwell, D.H. Lawrence, and Vivien Leigh, whose lives were tragically shortened before effective antibiotics became available in the 1940s and 1950s. Sadly, however, TB's protean bacteria quickly began to mutate into drug-resistant strains, and the search for a permanent cure or effective vaccine continues. A Consuming disease

When the whole world seemed to be suffering with flu last winter I read and thoroughly enjoyed "Flu" by Gina Kolata. I caught the sickness bug (bad pun) and read several more social-history books about deadly diseases and living conditions in the past, and Dormandy's "The White Death" was by far the best. We readers are all familiar with the idea of the limp, frail tubercular Victorian who is tragically going to waste away before his magnus opus is finished, but do we realise that until fairly recently, tuberculosis was so common - in fact expected in certain circles - that the wasted tubercular look was actually fashionable amongst the artistic and indolent (early heroine-chic?)? This very readable book charts the long and difficult fight between the medical establishment and tuberculosis - a disease that wasn't fussy who it struck or where it struck. Of course, the poor slum-dwellers didn't stand a chance, but history does not record their names. What is striking is how many well known figures it hastened to an early grave - some of the finest artists, writers and minds of Europe, including the Brontës, Keats, Modigliani, Chekhov, D.H. Lawrence, Katherine Mansfield and George Orwell. It also rampaged through several royal households at various times. What made it so cruel was its slowness and the way it toyed with its victims. Availed with all that quackery could offer, the patient could have several seeming "recoveries" before eventually fading. Dormandy describes some of the practises of doctors in their battle against tuberculosis - you will have to read them for yourself! Gradually inroads were made by the scientific community but only after generations of sickness. Incredibly it was a long time before the idea of quarantine caught on (in Italy)! An interesting and readable medical and social history that becomes more compelling when you know that tuberculosis is again on the rise. Drug-resistant strains have been found, and it seems that whilst battles may have been won, the war may still be lost.

So-So

An interesting book about the history of TB, going back to the time of ancient Greeks, but it can be slow going trying to make your way through it. I picked it up ad put it down a few times before finally making it through and while interesting I felt like I came to the end of 25 mile march when done...exhausted. I saw a PBS show on TB which got me interested in reading more but this was not the book to start with. More of a list of facts and figures than a "story", it is more for the medically inclined and not the average reader.

I concur with the other reviewers. The important story of tuberculosis is very well told. The author erudition and skill earns the reader's respect and appreciation. For events prior to the publication in 2000, this could well be the best single book to read.

This is a very simple book that anyone taking a persuasion class or just wanting to read it for fun could understand. It describes in good detail, but not boring detail, how persuasion works and why we use it. An impressive read and I am really liking the book.

An excellent text on physical metallurgy

This is an excellent text for an introduction to physical metallurgy. In its popularity it is perhaps second only to the famous text by Reed-Hill (now Reed-Hill and Abbaschian). Its coverge is limited compared to that of Reed-Hill (for example it doesn't contain chapters on creep and fracture). But the topics discussed are usually at a higher standard than Reed-Hill. There are nice problems at the end of each chapters, most of them reasonably challenging. If you are connceted with physical metallurgy you should definitely get a copy of this book.

A ghostly mystery written with a light touch of humor and compassion. It was entertaining. I enjoyed all the various ghosts and their different personalities, both good and bad. And endearing. I love Lucy the skunk. And the growing relationship between Verity and Ellis.

Verity Long sees ghosts. Mostly with the help of long dead gangster Frank. Mysteries seem to surround Verity and the town of Sugarland. Watch out citizens: Verity is working to uncover the truth.

“True," Melody said, "but we're going to be here all night. In fact, that's why I called. I was hoping you could help me out tomorrow. I'm not going to have time to set up tables or direct the caterers. Can you meet me at six and handle those details while I finish going through the artifacts?"
"Six in the morning?" I asked.
"Lots of people get up earlier than that," she said, drily.

The Skeleton in the Closet is ghostly fun

The Skeleton in the Closet is a paranormal cozy that provides laughs as well as an intriguing mystery.

Preparations for the annual Cannonball in the Wall festival are in full swing, and it promises to be bigger than ever. Virginia Wydell family is paying for a documentary to be made about the town's heroic past. The Wydells and the Jacksons are trying to outdo each other, providing antiques and articles for an exhibition about the town's past. Verity's sister Melody is one of the volunteers helping with the exhibit.

The morning the festival is about to start, Verity and Melody discover the library door open and the head volunteer dead, a bayonet in her back. Late the night before, Darla discovered papers that would drastically affect the town, but ghostly evidence is not enough. Along with Frankie her ghostly sidekick and the charming and handsome Deputy Sheriff Ellis Wydell, Verity must find evidence to stop a determined killer.

The Skeleton in the Closet is a highly original paranormal whodunnit that makes for a fun read.

Rattling more than some old bones!

Okay. Let’s start with the clever title of this book. Just when the reader thinks they get it, surprise!! Which is the point of a really good mystery, right?

What do I like best about Ms. Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter series? I love her -Not your Momma’s ghosts: Snarky Frankie, Scare your pants off and kill you if she can, Ma, confused Matthew, and sweet Josephine. I want my own pet skunk like Lucy (Don’t tell my cat!). And then there’s hunky Ellis. Come on, Verity!!! Accept it. You LUV him!!!

Verity keeps swearing she’s not a Ghost Hunter! As Frankie, her resident ghost says, she isn’t making any money at ghost hunting and they NEEED money. But when a woman is murdered in the town library, Verity has to find the true murderer to clear her sister.

Who wouldn’t face a maniacal poltergeist to find the truth and save her sister! And work alongside Ellis!!! YUM!

Hey, Frankie. I’d take the same pay Verity gets, kisses from hunky Ellis!!!

Anthony W. Bateman, Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, Visiting Professor University College, London and Consultant Anna Freud Centre, London, UK,Roy Krawitz, Consultant Psychiatrist and DBT therapist, Waikato District Health Board, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, Auckland University, New Zealand

Anthony W. Bateman is Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, Halliwick Unit, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey Mental Health Trust, Visiting Professor University College, London and Consultant to the Anna Freud Centre, London. He developed mentalization based treatment with Peter Fonagy for borderline personality disorder and studied its effectiveness in research trials. An adapted version is now being used in other psychiatric disorders and in the treatment of families and adolescents. He was an expert member of National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) development group for treatment guidelines for Borderline Personality Disorder in UK. He is President of the European Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ESSPD).

He has authored several books including 'Psychotherapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: Mentalization based treatment' and 'Mentalization Based Treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder: A practical guide' (with Peter Fonagy).

Roy Krawitz is a psychiatrist and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer (Auckland University) specializing for the last 20 years in working with people with borderline personality disorder (BPD), and is a director and trainer of a company providing DBT training. Roy has published research demonstrating the effectiveness of his generalist borderline personality disorder trainings (125 two-day trainings), the clinical effectiveness of his past therapy, and the clinical effectiveness of the DBT service in which he works. Roy is the author of 14 scientific articles and 5 other books on BPD (including client and clinician guides published by Oxford University Press in four languages in total).

it is very helpful and easily readable for family members

Though this book is written for clinicians, it is very helpful and easily readable for family members. It is compassionate, clear in the explanations of the symptoms and treatment of BPD, and the comments from people with BPD and those who are their carers add much to the understanding of this illness. As a mother of someone with BPD I especially appreciate the fact that there is no criticism or blame of parents having caused the illness, rather an explanation of "poorness of fit" of parenting a child with BPD. There is an excellent handout for carers, which, with permission from the authors, can be made available to carers on how they can help their family member.
Highly recommended for all involved with BPD.

A great review, extremely useful for all health care providers who, per the nature of their work will encounter these patients. A book that provide all of us with tools to better manage, be less afraid and be more compassionate towards so many whose sufferings can so improve when offered the right approach and tools.
